Frequently Asked Questions
1How do clear aligners straighten the teeth?
AThe aligners gently move the patient's teeth in small increments from their original state to a more optimal, aligned and treated state.
2Am I a candidate?
APlease consult our doctors to find out.
3How long is my treatment and how many sets of aligners do I need?
ASeveral sets of aligners would be used in treatment, depending on the difficulty of the case and the treatment plan approved by the doctor.
4Is it painful?
ASensitivity and tenderness to teeth may occur during treatment, especially when moving forward from one aligner to another.
5Does it affect my speech?
AAligner wear may temporarily affect speech, resulting in a slight lisp. Patients typically adapt quickly to the aligners within a week or two. • Patients may experience an increase in salivation or dryness of the mouth.
6I have an implant, can I wear aligners?
AAligner appliances are not effective in the movement of dental implants. However, you may consult our doctor’s advice to find out if you are a candidate.
7In what case will my treatment get extended?
AExtended treatment time may occur as a result of poor compliance to doctor’s instructions, wearing aligners less than the prescribed hours, missing appointments, poor oral hygiene, excessive bone growth, or broken appliances. The ability to achieve the desired results may also get affected.
8Do I need attachments?
ASome treatment plans might require attachments (small bumps of tooth colored composite material to be temporarily bonded to one or more teeth), or angelButton (a part of aligner) to assist with tooth movement. These are critical to proper movement and should be replaced if they fall off. All “attachments” will be removed upon treatment completion.
9When do I need IPR (interproximal reduction)?
AIn the presence of severe crowding, IPR (reducing the thickness of enamel on the tooth) might be carried out at a certain stage by your doctor to create enough space for proper tooth movement and alignment.
10Do I need to wear retainers after the treatment?
ATeeth may shift positions if proper and consistent wearing of retainers is not followed. Wearing your retainers nightly is highly advised to maintain corrected alignment.
